FJ original nose, plus Production nose, for comparison.

This picture shows how both of the FJ shapes 'fill in' the opening in the nose of the production Voyager. The first shape had a low leading edge, the new shape is a full inverted aerofoil with a high leading edge. The book about super-high fuel economy cars, "The leading edge" was influencial in selecting this shape.

Both the production and original FJ shapes generated a pressure wave off the upper convex surface of the nose that, particularly in the first FJ shape, disturbed the airflow over the remainder of the nose. The new FJ shape avoids this with it's sharply cut off, flattened, upper surface.
