2010 Makeover - Bringing the signage up to date!

Submitted by bobwreford on 19 May, 2010 - 1:20pmI was so cold from the draughts inside the fairing on the late night trips that I added these pieces of cheap carpet to make a kind of cockpit retrieving warm air from the engine area before it is blown away by cold air coming at me each side of the tank, seems to have done the trick without the engine or rider overheating so far!

Submitted by bobwreford on 11 May, 2010 - 2:11pmI was just too late to bring my ferry booking forward a day so spent a day in Fecamp near Le Havre, it was great to be at the seaside and have a traditional French McDonalds - 'Un repas Best of McChicken s'il vous plait' - and she knew exactly what I had ordered, there is hope for Entente Cordiale after all, or is that a fruit drink?

Submitted by bobwreford on 11 May, 2010 - 1:48pmAh Yes, this is my 'usual' stop at lunchtime at La Jonquera just inside Spain, so this pic is out of sequence. I could not help but notice as I rode into the High Street that in the two years since I was last here six bar/nightclubs have opened adjacent to the main road car and lorry park. As I was buying a bottle of lemonade in the supermarket a heavily built tattooed man went into the pharmacy opposite and dragged out a scantily dressed young woman in harem pants and went off up the road with her shouting angrily.

Submitted by bobwreford on 11 May, 2010 - 1:31pmThat's strange, instead of the pool being surrounded by bronzed beauties there seems to be only me. That can only mean that all the other guests cancelled once they knew I was coming or it may have been because it has now been raining for three days and the forecast is gales and snow for the next ten days!

Submitted by bobwreford on 11 May, 2010 - 1:28pmNearly at my rented holiday flat, this is Torroella De Montgri near Estartit in NE Spain, a fortified monastery on a mountain. This used to be a coastal town but over the last 300 years the river has silted up so now the coast is 6 miles away.Note the fact that it is raining and not the 28C sunshine we had a few days ago at Riberac.....don't ever go on holiday the same weeks as me if you want sunshine!

Submitted by bobwreford on 11 May, 2010 - 1:21pmI innocently took this photo as I began climbing a mountain pass, little realising I was about to crash. The spray painted names on the road of bicycle racers should have warned me that the bends and gradients would be testing but out of sight on a blind bend a van coming towards me overtook a cyclist and forced me over the edge of the drop. It was nearly curtains for Olde Bobbe but panic braking plus an instinctive reaction to skid my boots on the road reduced speed sufficiently to ride into a tree as I went over the edge.

Submitted by bobwreford on 11 May, 2010 - 1:13pmI am in the habit of asking local people to take my photo since otherwise the only way is to set up a tripod and use the timer, so this time another old lady took this pic after my limited Spanish came up with 'Se Puede tomar una photo?' which roughly means 'OK to take a photo?'. Thus encouraged by my amazing grasp of foreign languages I later asked the same phrase of an attractive girl outside a fruit shop but (of course idiot!) she thought I was asking if it was OK to take a photo of her and categorically refused! Incidentally, nice shoulder bag Bobbe......

Submitted by bobwreford on 11 May, 2010 - 12:56pmAs a biker I always look at property with a basement garage, in complete envy of Mark Crowson's. So here it is, the actual one like what I wanted cos it was cheap....Mmm, those cavity walls seem to fail building regs, and are clay bricks sufficiently structural to keep several tonnes of masonry off my bike collection?
