    BMW 650 Superscoots

In November 2011 BMW launched two brand new superscooters. Both use the same 647cc twin cylinder engine, but the lighter, sportier of the two is called the 'C600 Sport' whereas the heavier, more luxurious version is called the 'C650 GT'

  • Born-again Italjet, with HCS, 2020

Italjets with HCS: Formula 125 & Dragster

The Italian firm Italjet was the first, and to date, the only manufacturer to fit hub centre steering to a scooter. They fitted their SIS HCS system to 50cc, 125 and 180cc Dragsters and to their twin cylinder Formula 125 – all two strokes. Twenty years on, the Dragster has been 'born again' with a four stroke engine, but still with hub centre steering ideal, perhaps, for a small electric FF. Hence their appearance on this website.

  • ZEV: Ripe for FFing!

    ZEV electric Maxiscooters

ZEV, based in West Virginia, have a whole range of electric PTWs but their biggest is clearly a shameless copy of the Suzuki Burgman 650, but with a rear wheel hub motor and a chassis full of batteries to give it a very respectable range. It would go even further and faster if it were turned into a 'quick and dirty' FF......

  • Robin Thomas on Mk1 Tmax; Mark Crowson & QuickaQuasar in 2003

    Yamaha Tmax (XP500) Mk1,2&3 2000-2010

Yamaha's back-to-basics rethink of the superscooter; by making handling as much of a priority as performance, they made the Tmax more of an automatic motorcycle than a mere twist'n'go scooter, so it was top fun to ride. It also came with a top price: £6,000 back in 2000. PNB

  • Roland Sands Radical Tmax530

    Yamaha Tmax530 (launched in 2011-)

Yamaha's major overhaul of the decade-old Tmax brand. The Mk4 version is the lightest and most powerful yet, with the best handling and brakes to match. It's also the most expensive, naturally, and the 'fitted for life' fully enclosed rear drive chain has been dropped in favour of an exposed toothed belt, which some regard as a retrograde step, notwithstanding the reduction in unsprung weight.
